Final Friday Artist Joyce Shupe

I had the pleasure of meeting Joyce, an artist and retired 1st grade teacher the other day. She is going to be featuring some of her beautiful art in the Final Friday Art walk on Friday August 31,(just a few days away!) in my studio with two other amazing artisit. Joyce is a very talented artist, and I enjoyed looking at her paintings, and seeing her pottery studio on her and her husbands rural oasis.  Her home and land are just beautiful.  I enjoyed picking some peaches and apples from her orchard with my daughter as we chatted.  I sent Joyce some questions about herself to answer as well so you could get to know her too before coming to see her beautiful work this Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Q:  Describe yourself in 3 sentences.

I am multi-faceted and deeply sensitive. I love making something beautiful from nothing. I love growing and watching others grow.

Q: When did you first discover your love for art?

I think it all began with my first box of crayons. Art has always enriched my life and in turn made my world brighter.

Q: Favorite medium to work in?

The last two years I have enjoyed painting with acrylics. I also love working on the potter’s wheel.

Q: Who is your favorite artist (living or dead)?

Rembrandt

Q: What type of work will you show at Final Fridays Art Walk?

I will show landscapes and floral paintings. I have one portrait of a homeless man I met in the mountains.

Q: What inspires you most these days?

Nature

Q:  What do you do to replenish your creativity?

I love galleries.

Favorite color?Color is like food for me, somedays I yearn for cranberry red as it is so exciting. Yet I love the deep Colbalt blues. Like I say I am multi-faceted and it depends on the day.
Favorite music to create to? Instrumental Music
Hobbies? Gardening, Quilting, cooking
Favorite movie? Forrest Gump
Where would you go, if you could travel anywhere in the world? The English countryside.

I loved Joyce’s property so much I asked if I could do a session there that I had lined up for the week.  She let me and was so kind to give my clients some bags to take home some fruit from her orchard.  It was a special session I am sure the family I photographed will remember always.

Thanks Joyce for giving me this peak into your life and creative ventures.  I haven’t known you long, but it feels like we have been friends for awhile now!
