Welcome to my world

My world is a busy one (to say the least!) but I truly wouldn't change a thing.  Finding a balance is an everyday challenge for sure.  I am passionate about my God, my family, photography and design.  This blog is just going to be about everything.

I have an amazing husband, Bryson, who is a hard worker and "professional" hunter.  He is my biggest fan AND largest Critic!  I guess that's why I keep him around.  Charlotte is my 3 year old tender-hearted little girl that loves a good princess story and is one of my favorite subjects to photograph. Pierson is my 1-1/2 year old firecracker.  He is ALL boy and plays with choo choo's, dinosaurs, and loves to suck the juice out of any marker within reach.  (There aren't any within reach anymore).

How I see things

Photography isn't just a hobby for me, it is my career and I am passionate about what I do. I am constantly learning from seminars, webinars, other professionals, and books to better my skills as a photographer and designer.  I also know my software well, so I can create images that show my subjects as works of art.  My design background is a great asset in setting me apart from other professional photographers.  I design portrait boards to make the walls of your home tell a story.

There are bee’s in the tree!

Today we were playing outside (before it got too hot!) and I noticed a cloud around our smallest tree in the yard.  I got a little closer and noticed that there were a TON of bees.  They were all over one branch and pretty thick.  We watched them awhile and went inside… awhile later they were quietly hanging out on that branch in what is called a swarm.  Several bee’s were flying back and forth looking for a new home.  My neighbor called a bee keeper and he came right over to get them.  Bees are actually becoming more and more rare and we need them so I was happy someone actually wanted our little stinging friends.

The Bee Keeper was an interesting Hippie like man… or is he a Granola (moddern term for “hippie”)?  Anyway, he came in and ran his fingers (no gloves!) through the bees looking for the Queen Bee.  He found her and got his bucked out and a brush and swiped them off the branch in big chunks.  (They were really thick in some places!).  I asked him if he got stung, and he said “oh maybe about 5 or 6 times…” The remaining bees are still flying around the tree so we may need to spray them.  They aren’t really happy about being left behind.

It was actually a really fun learning experience, and I am glad they will be making honey somewhere in the country.  The kids and I ate some peanut butter and honey sandwiches for lunch… I was craving some honey after this experience.

July 28, 2010 - 8:36 PM Betsy Gilliland - This happened to us at our house! It was so weird to see such a swarm. Donna McNicholas came out and with a paint brush and bucket, as you said, swept them gently off the branches. She too, was hoping for the queen bee, but don't know if she got it or not. Bottom line, don't want your kids annoying the swarm and getting stung all over by angry bees!
