  • About me

Hi, my name is Amy. I am a wife to my hard working husband, mommy to three beautiful kids, and I am an artist. I am a pretty simple person, and I am working hard to share God's beauty through photography and art. Thanks for visiting my blog. Here you will find lots of images, and my own daily musings about life. :)

Morgan’s Barber Shop

I just happened to have my “big camera” with me yesterday during the boy’s haircuts.  The last haircut did not go this well!  I was pretty surprised when August climbed into the chair with out a whimper.  It was also exciting to have his hair fixed after Bryson and I butchered it the last time it was cut {we won’t try that again}.  I do have one complaint Barber Bob… he looks too big now.  I want my messy haired baby back!  He looks like a big boy now.

Bob Morgan’s barber shop has been in business for 50 years.  That’s a lot of haircuts….seriously… I wonder how many haircuts that could be!!  Bob always has the latest news, and his barber shop feels a little like you are stepping back in time… back to when things were a little more simple.  You can sit and read the paper while you wait, or do a puzzle, or go for a little spin on the rocket {Pierson would choose the rocket every time}, and you better not be in a hurry… a good haircut takes time, you can’t rush these things.  Anyway, my boys look sharp thanks to Bob.  Bob cuts my husbands hair, my dad’s hair, my father in law’s hair, and of course my two son’s…3 generations.

Cathy Marten - Hey, I think my son and I were walking by there on our way to the chiropractor while he was having his hair cut! My son made the comment that it looked like that barber shop must have been there for a “Long” time and I told him it had been there for as long as I could remember (which has been a “Really Long Time.”) I love seeing that at least a few of the places I remember as a child are still in operation in Holton, KS. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story of such a long standing business.

{Faith 52} Philippians 2:14-15

I missed the first week of Project 52 and last week I had a sick baby and the sun didn’t shine much… I really wanted a photo of the sun shining for these verses.  Today brought it back to my mind… especially after I walked outside. The ground was sparkling with beautiful frost.  Charlotte exclaimed, “Wow, mom look at the trees and grass! It looks like diamonds!”  Sometimes I think we are really just getting a tiny taste of the beauty God has in store for us in Heaven.

The verse of the week (last week… I’m a little late, typically I want to post this over the weekend) is this…

Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.

{Philippians 2:14-15}

Wow… I needed this reminder.  I complain, and nag {way} more then I should, and often find myself tempted by sin and this world.  This week I will try harder, and hold this verse and it’s truth close.  I am called, as a Christian, to be a light, to help guide the way, to our Savior.  How incredibly humbling…

The frost today made me think of God, and what an amazing artist He is.  Through nature he reveals Himself to me over and over again.  I hope these images will make you think of him too.

Baby Ella Grace

I have been looking forward to photographing Ella for months and months… her mom asked me to do her newborn session as she announced her pregnancy to me so I was ready!  Ella spent the first 80 days of her life in the NICU, and even had open heart surgery! (More on her story on her blog page if you click here.) Her family and friends anxiously awaited the day she would finally come home and she did!  She is such a pretty baby, and already has quite the personality.

Ella’s mom Abbey and I were friends and neighbors all through our childhood.  Abbey even gave me my first driving lesson on her dad’s golf cart…. I am pretty sure I failed.  I hit the house.  Oops… Maybe that’s why 8-9 year old’s don’t drive. We ran a drive through restaurant in her play house, and had several dates with the New Kids on the Block band.  We were the coolest, or so we thought.:)I miss being a kid. It is so exciting for me that our kids get to grow up together (they are the same ages), and their grandparents are still neighbors!  I love being from a small town.

August Sleeping

August is almost 2… and he is fighting nap time like crazy lately.  By the time he is asleep, sometimes after the longest wrestling match ever, I am exhausted.  Yesterday he fought it and fought it, looked miserably  tired then finally gave in to his complete exhaustion as it was almost time to think about starting dinner.  I know it’s a faze, they have all done this at some point, I just hope he outgrows it soon and figures out that sleep is awesome… for everyone.  Anyway, my little monster turned in to a complete angel as soon as his heavy eyelids shut, and he let out that big sigh that always happens when they finally drift off.  I had to take a few pics… because I love sleeping baby’s, and I am still learning my new camera.  Isn’t he sweet?  I love him.

If you want to see more pics of my sleeping kids, follow me on Instagram (Amy_Cyphers).  I love documenting moments, and sleeping kids with this app… ok, so I might be a little obsessed.  I admit it. It’s just too fun.

Charlotte… the Snow Queen, and my new camera!

I purchased a new camera!  Finally, the camera I’ve been drooling over and reading about for months, the Canon Mark III…. so I had to test it out. I am sooooo impressed.  The images right out of the camera were beautiful.  Metering in the snow isn’t the easiest but I have done it enough to know how to expose it properly and I was so excited to view these in Lightroom.  One of the reasons I purchased the camera was it’s focusing system (61 focusing points! Holy cow!) and I was not disappointed.  I don’t know enough yet to write a full review, but I LOVE it.  I will have to write more on it after I have read the manual again, and used it for some photo shoots.  My first experience was a good one…. I love it. (Did I say that already??)

My crown I had been waiting on and excited to use came that day, so I wanted to use it too… Charlotte’s my little Snow Queen.:)  It did take a little bribing, and my model was really cold so we had to shoot quickly. It was snowing big fluffy flakes, and felt like a dream.  I love nature and winter wonderland days.  Being in the country now makes it even more magical.
